You can make same-day or next-day reservations by calling 310-206-0271 or visiting the CLICC Lab in Powell Library 145. You can reserve a room for a maximum of 2 hours. At least 2 people must occupy the room.

Did You Know that YOU can attend UCSA Congress?

The University of California Student Association Congress (or UCSA Congress for short) is UCSA’s annual membership conference. Students from each campus meet and select the campaigns that they will be promoting for the upcoming year. UCSA Congress will be held at UC Irvine from August 12 to 15. If you are interested in student issues, the budget crisis, or just want to be more informed, be sure to apply by filling out the application (http://www.box.net/shared/z86jbdlo9l) and emailing it to usaevp@gmail.com by Wednesday, July 28th. Did You Know that your student group can reserve a table at the 2010 Enormous Activities Fair?

You can access the application form through your student group’s OrgSync Portal. Go to tools, then forms, then select the 2010 Enormous Activities Fair form. Each student group can only submit one form, so be sure that only one person from your organization fills it out. If you have any questions, email bruinbash@ucla.edu.

Did You Know that funding is available for community service groups?

Applications for the Community Activities Committee Regular Fund and Supplementary Fund are now available. Community service activities that occur off-campus and are ongoing, student-initiated, and student-run may apply. There will be two information sessions on this funding source on the following days:

Thursday, July 22nd from 4pm-6pm at Kerckhoff Hall 131
Wednesday, July 28th from 4pm-6pm at Kerckhoff 131

Did You Know that the UCLA Political Science major requirements have changed?

DONT GET STUCK TAKING CLASSES YOU NO LONGER NEED! Allied Field requirements have been cut, shortening the major requirements. This is not yet reflected on any of the departmental websites, but an email was sent out.

If you didn’t get the email from Departmental advisor Kathleen Escobedo, here it is:

“Political Science B.A.

Effective date: Spring 2010

The allied fields course requirement is removed from the Political Science
Bachelor of Arts major. The Political Science BA degree upper division unit
requirement is being reduced from 56 units to 40 units. The College of
Letters and Science upper division unit requirement remains 60 upper division
units. The total units required to graduate remain 180 minimum.

All Political Science majors earning degrees in Spring 2010 and thereafter are
no longer required to complete the allied field requirement in related social
sciences. Any courses toward this requirement now completed apply toward the
60 upper division units required by the College of Letters and Science.

The degree progress report, UCLA General Catalog, department web site, and
Political Science major check sheet will soon be updated to reflect this
change.

Winter 2010 Degree Candidates now enrolled in Allied Field course requirements
have the option to request a waiver of the requirement. Before dropping an
allied field course check that 60 total upper division units will be completed
at the end of the degree term, Winter 2010. The waiver request may processed
during the current term at the Political Science undergraduate office, 4269
A/B Bunche Hall.

The approval to remove the requirement was conveyed to the department by the
academic senate. This announcement is going out within a day of receiving
official notice from the academic senate. The last day to change study lists
for the current term (add/drop) without a fee is Friday of Week 2, January 15.
Friday of Week 3, January 22, is the last day to add courses through URSA, $5
per course fee. Friday of Week 4, January 29, is the last day to drop non-
impacted courses without a transcript notation, $5 fee per transaction.”

Did You Know that UCLA has a Botanical Garden that you can visit for free?

The Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden is a 7-acre that houses around 5,000 species in 225 plant families. It’s opened Mondays-Saturdays, tours may be requested and you can also reserve the Patio! It is located in South Campus near the Factor Building (which houses the Nursing School), the School of Dentistry, and the UCLA Health Sciences Store.

Did You Know it’s easy to work with ORL?

Clubs or organizations can work with ORL by contacting the Residential Director in any resident hall, plaza, etc. For example, if you wanted to do a clothing drive, you can contact the RD in Dysktra and they will be able to give you the logistical information to get started. Afterwards, you can attend the EVP meetings of the residence halls in order to outreach to residents.
